Armored Core 6 Gameplay Reveal Focuses on Mech Customisation; FromSoftware Confirms 1v1 and 3v3 Multiplayer Modes

FromSoftware hosted its Armored Core 6 livestream yesterday to reveal an ample amount of gameplay, which was filled with action. Game director Masaru Yamamura also announced that Armored Core 6, also known as Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon, will feature PvP gameplay. The multiplayer 2-6 player support rumours were circulating on the internet and were finally confirmed by FromSoftware. Armored Core 6 will feature 1v1 and 3v3 multiplayer support but no 2v2 mode.

Armored Core 6 multiplayer

“There is a PvP mode, online PvP that has both 1v1 and 3v3 matches. The idea behind the 3v3 is more of a ‘mecha festival,’ with metal flying everywhere. We hope you can look forward to that,” director Masaru Yamamura told PC Gamer. There will be no 2v2 PvP game mode in the upcoming game. It is key to note that FromSoftware’s upcoming game is primarily a single-player experience. The multiplayer aspect is added for an extra layer of fun gameplay for players to enjoy. There is no co-op multiplayer for the story campaign of Armored Core 6.

The gameplay featured a variety of new things, including the stagger effect. This allows a player to temporarily stun enemies and inflict additional damage. A feature called transversal, like the name suggests, helps players move around the stages in Armored Core 6. Bandai Namco and FromSoftware also gave players a closer look at mech customisation as players can customise the internal, external, and weapon parts of their armoured core.

As for the story, it takes place in “a future where interstellar travel is commonplace.” You take on the role of a mercenary who has an active contract to infiltrate the planet of Rubicon 3. The mission asks of players to find a mysterious substance known as coral.

Elden Ring and Armored Core 6 were developed by only 300 developers

Director Masaru Yamamura also told PC Gamer about the team size for both Elden Ring and Armored Core 6. FromSoftware had a total of 300 developers, and 400 employees in total. Yamamura said that the development team was shifted to different projects as per the needs at the time. “We don’t expect players to read through the whole staff list at the end of every game and compare who’s who,” he joked.

“To give a broad image, we have just about 400 employees at FromSoftware, and about 300 of those are development staff. That pool of development staff is shifted around, moved between projects as needed, depending on the current situation with a project and the current period of development,” added Yamamura.

Armored Core 6 real-life statue at SDCC 2023

Armored Core fans spotted a massive real-sized Armored Core torso at the San Diego Comic-Con, and it has been receiving love from the game’s community ever since. Fans of Armored Core were left in awe when they came across this installation that was set up to market the upcoming game. Part of the marketing is a QR code that fans at SDCC can scan to join the Armored Core pilot recruitment program.
