Aquaman Warped Jurassic World’s Scariest Monster In An Act of Police Brutality

In Aquaman/Green Arrow: Deep Target #6, the aquatic Justice League hero commits a questionable act when he summons a creature out of Jurassic World.

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for Aquaman/Green Arrow: Deep Target #6 now on sale from DC Comics.

In the DC Universe, there have been a few times when Aquaman has acted in a questionable manner. He’s had heated debates with Batman and Superman over how the Justice League should be run, and even before he enlisted, as DC’s Throne of Atlantis arc showed, he would cross the line to protect his family and the kingdom of Atlantis.

In Aquaman/Green Arrow: Deep Target #6 (by Brandon Thomas, Ronan Cliquet, Ulises Arreola, and Josh Reed), Arthur Curry is seen once more abusing his power, turning the scariest monster of Jurassic World into a merciless enforcer.

Aquaman used a mosasaurus for police brutality

The creature in question is the Mosasaurus, well-remembered for delivered a horrific moment when it rose up from the aquatic tank in Jurassic World. In Deep Target, Aquaman uses his telepathy to spark a similar response from a leviathan that strongly resembles the dinosaur. He then uses the creature to rise up from a lake and attack a helicopter that the villains of the story were using in an effort to escape.

This act can be seen as both questionable and sadistic, especially so considering that it was perpetrated by a heroic member of DC’s upstanding Justice League. This becomes even more concerning in light of the fact that the issue never confirms the survival of the villains who were in the helicopter at the time of the attack, and Aquaman himself appears have little or no concern about their fate. The moment is made even worse when the monster grabs the reptilian main villain of the story and drags him to the depths of the lake.

This directly mimicked an equally terrifying scene in Jurassic World, in which the Mosasaurus rose up from its water tank and grabbed the Indominus Rex, pulling it into the tank. But while that was nature and survival of the fittest, this was Aquaman abusing his powers and acting in a tyrannical manner. To make matters worse, the Atlantean punched his opponent a few times in the depths before finally freeing him from the jaws of the massive beast.

This entire scene, while powerful, is also quite disturbing. There is a very real possibility that the general could have drowned or been seriously wounded by the teeth of the leviathan. Although the attack was clearly meant to be intimidating, this may ultimately be yet another example of the Atlantean powerhouse going too far and using his powers in a way that comes across as not only unethical but also brutal and unnecessary.
