Apple WWDC 2023: Is the company working on its ChatGPT-rival? New gen AI job listings hints

Apple recently banned its employees from using ChatGPT. The Cupertino-based company is now reportedly hiring for positions across its machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI). Does it mean that Apple is developing its own ChatGPT-rival?

According to a report by Pocket-lint, Apple US career page has 176 current job openings. Of them, 43 are posted this month. While 68 of the jobs relate to Apple’s voice assistant, Siri, while 52 of them will be dedicated to iOS and 46 with macOS.

A report by TechCrunch said that the company said it would approach generative AI in a “deliberate and thoughtful” way during its Q2 earnings call. With the new job postings ahead of WWDC 2023, Apple seems to be following the steps of other tech companies.

Apple has announced to host the Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) on June 5 this year. The event will be focused around augmented reality and virtual reality. It is being speculated that like Google’s I/O event, Apple WWDC 2023 will be centred around AI.

WWDC 2023 will start at 10:30pm IST. Similar to the past years, the event will be broadcasted live on the company’s website along with its official YouTube channel.

At the event, the company is expected to reveal its latest operating system for mobile (iOS), tablets (iPadOS) and laptops (macOS) among others. Recently, the iPhone maker announced new accessibility features for Apple devices that will be available with iOS 17.

One such feature is Assistive Access feature that distills Apple’s applications and experiences down to their most essential features. It also combines the Phone and FaceTime into a single app. Aimed at people with cognitive disabilities, Assistive Access is designed to help reduce the “cognitive load” on users while tailoring the iPad and iPhone experience to their needs. Live speech and personal voice advance speech are other features coming to iPhones. The live speech will allow users to type what they want and have it played during a phone call or FaceTime conversation.
