Apple Watch to reportedly get more health tracking features next year – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Apple is expected to launch its latest Watch Series 7 smartwatches this month at the iPhone 13 launch event. However, ahead of the new launch, it appears that Apple has already started working on Apple Watch Series 8. According to an online report, Apple has started working on a wishlist of health features, which the company may incorporate in the future Apple Watch.
As reported by the Wall Street Journal, Apple is planning to include various types of monitoring like blood pressure, temperature, sleep and blood sugar in its upcoming smartwatches. The report suggests that Apple is considering adding new sensors to the smartwatch. According to the report, the Cupertino-based tech giant wants to develop a sensor that can function as a proxy for blood pressure cuff without squeezing the wrist. Apple has been working for a long time on this feature. The company also filed for a patent in 2016 for wearable blood pressure monitors.
Another online report by Bloomberg revealed that Apple planned to introduce a temperature sensor in the Watch this year, but the same has been pushed to next year. The WSJ report further adds that Apple might also incorporate a fertility tracking sensor in the future smartwatch.
Apple is also thinking of expanding the Watch’s sleep and blood oxygen tracking capabilities. As per the report, the company wants the Apple Watch to detect sleep apnea, a disorder that causes people to stop breathing while they are sleeping. In order to make this work, the company will have to figure out the best time to take blood oxygen readings as keeping the sensor on all the time would drain the battery soon.
Apple also reportedly plans to see FDA clearance for existing Watch features such as heart rhythm tracking for people with irregular heart rhythms.
Apart from this, the report also states that Apple has been trying to develop a noninvasive glucose monitoring system and the same is expected to come in future Apple Watches.
