Apple CEO Tim Cook’s India visit ‘impresses’ Paytm CEO Vijay Shekhar Sharma – Times of India
Cook is in India for the launch of Apple’s first-ever company-owned retail stores in the country. Cook on Tuesday opened the doors of Apple’s first official store in Mumbai, Apple BKC. Apple is all set to open its second store at Saket in Delhi today (April 20). “India has such a beautiful culture and an incredible energy, and we’re excited to build on our long-standing history,” Cook said in a statement.
Apple also completed 25 years in India this month. The company has been selling its products through authorised retailers and the website it launched in 2020. Regulatory hurdles and the pandemic delayed its plans to open a flagship store.
Apple CEO met PM Modi
Cook met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the national capital on Wednesday (August 19) and said that his company is committed to growing and investing across India. “Thank you Prime Minister @narendramodi for the warm welcome. We share your vision of the positive impact technology can make on India’s future — from education and developers to manufacturing and the environment, we’re committed to growing and investing across the country,” Cook tweeted after his meeting with PM Modi.
Responding to Cook’s tweet, PM Modi said it was an absolute delight to meet the CEO of Apple and exchange views on diverse topics and highlight the tech-powered transformations taking place in India.
This is Cook’s second trip to India, the last being in 2016 when the tech giant was just beginning to scale up operations in the country. Cook met PM Modi during that trip as well.
