Apple AR/VR headset to enter mass production in March 2023: Report – Times of India
Apple’s much-anticipated AR/VR headset has been the talk of the town for a while now, and it seems to be moving a step closer to being a reality. According to a DigiTimes report, the Apple mixed-reality headset will enter mass production next year in March.
The report suggests that the headset is currently in the manufacturing validation process. DigiTimes reports that the Cupertino-based tech giant has decided to move ahead with the China-based manufacturer Pegatron as the main supplier of its first AR/VR headset. The mixed-reality headset of Apple may launch a month later, i.e., May 2023.
As per the report, the initial supply for the headset would be around 700,000 and 800,000 units in the first year of its launch, which is much lower than the previously expected shipment of 2.5 million units.
With such a low supply quantity, the headset would not prove to be a profitable venture for the manufacturers, but these suppliers, including Pegatron, aim to ship the headset in a bid to jump on the AR/VR headset wagon to prepare themselves for the future.
While we have been waiting for months to hear about the mixed-reality headset from Apple, the company has been tight-lipped about it. Though, it recently trademarked the “RealityOS,” “Reality Processor,” and Reality One names, which are supposedly related to Apple’s mixed-reality headset project.
Rumours were rife that the Apple mixed-reality headset would launch in January 2023, with pre-orders scheduled for early Q2. Meanwhile, the open sales were expected to begin sometime around WWDC next year. But, the launch timeline seems to have been delayed.
