Apex F1 movie release date, cast and everything we know about Brad Pitt film

Brad Pitt is at the British Grand Prix with filming of his new F1 movie beginning this weekend. The Hollywood ace will star as a retired F1 star who returns to the track to help an up-and-coming youngster. A specially modified F2 car has been driven at Silverstone to get clips for the movie with a mock pit garage also being built.

Release date

The film is still in pre-production so a concrete release date has yet to be released. But, it is expected that the movie will finally be ready before the end of 2024 or early 2025.

The film is being produced for Apple TV so will feature on the streaming service after a limited cinema release.

Will Brad Pitt drive in the British GP?

Pitt will not be racing in the actual British Grand Prix but will have a presence at Silverstone. The car will be driven between sessions while filming will take place in a fake garage at Silverstone.

However, Pitt was snapped in the drivers’ briefing alongside Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Pierre Gasly ahead of the race.

What’s the reaction been?

The reaction has been mostly positive with F1 drivers throwing their support behind the new project. Hamilton said: “It’s massively exciting to see it all coming together and to know that we’re finally starting to film this weekend

“There are nerves, naturally, because it’s something we’ve been working on for so long, and we want everyone to love it and to really feel that we encapsulate what the essence of this sport is all about. That’s our goal and I hope we can do you proud.”

Zak Brown described the movie as a “massive production” which will “excite” fans. Meanwhile, Charles Leclerc stressed the camera crew would not be a distraction to the real F1 stars.

Cast

Brad Pitt will star as Sonny Hayes, a retired F1 star who makes a stunning comeback to the track. Damson Idris has also been confirmed in the cast and will star as Hayes’ team-mate Joshua Pierce.

Hamilton has ruled out getting involved despite previously starring in racing film Cars 2. He explained; “No, not really, I don’t really have any desire to be in front of the camera, but there may be an element in it where maybe I’ll slot in and play a small cameo, but at the moment that’s not the plan.”
