Anti-ageing hairstyles to ‘hide forehead lines’ and cover greys
Michael Douglas is a hair stylist who has tended to the tresses of supermodels including Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss and Yasmin Le Bon. Speaking exclusively to Express.co.uk, he explained how some small changes to your hairstyle could go a long way to creating a more “youthful” appearance.
If you are hoping to hide lines or wrinkles on your face, Michael recommends rethinking the cut of any hair which frames your face.
He explained: “A concave fringe is good for hiding forehead lines and laughter lines around the eyes.”
Although he says no one hairstyle can make you look older, Michael says different cuts suit different people.
“It really is horses for courses,” he said.

The good news is, there are plenty of trending hairstyles at the moment which can lend themselves towards a young, fresh look.
According to Michael, some of these include: “Blunt, shoulder-length bobs with air-dry texture.
“More natural or diffused styles, outgrown fringes and less overly-styled and overly sculpted hair.”
Colouring your hair can also go a long way to creating a more youthful appearance. While bright shades can appear harsh on certain people, subtle shades can appear more natural.
Michael explained: “Balayage is a very youthful colouring style yet great for covering grey styles.”
Balayage comes from a French word meaning “to sweep”, and uses a hair colouring technique where highlights are hand-painted or “swept” on the surface of random sections of hair.
Dye or lightener is usually painted on, starting in the mid-section and becoming denser as it moves down the section of hair to the ends.
This tends to be done in natural shades, such as blondes or browns, with highlights generally just a few shades lighter than your base colour, giving your locks natural depth and dimension.

Three tips for healthy hair
Re-think how often you wash your hair
If your scalp is oily, you may need to wash it as often as once a day to keep it looking fresh. However, if you regularly dye your hair, it may be dryer. In this instance, it can be a good idea to cut down on how often you wash it. As you age, your scalp begins to make less oil, so you may not need to shampoo it as frequently.
Use conditioner after every wash
Conditioner goes a long way to keeping your hair soft and improving the look of dry or damaged hair.
Make sure to use a good conditioner after every time you shampoo your hair.
Protect your hair
Whether you’re a regular swimmer or are spending time in the sun, there are certain steps you can take to keep your locks looking and feeling their best.
You can protect your hair from the damaging effects of chlorine by wetting and conditioning your hair before swimming, or wearing a tight-fitting swim cap.
If you’re heading into the sunshine, consider using a hair and scalp sunscreen.
