Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania Leaker Could Face Legal Action From Marvel

Marvel Studios is cracking down on leaks, and may very well take legal action on a culprit that leaked previously unreleased dialogue from Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania on Reddit.

According to THR, a California federal district court issued subpeonas on Monday in order to identify who distributed the information on the r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers subreddit. Marvel had previously asked for “all identifying information” for those behind the subreddit, “any other user(s) responsible for posting, editing, and/or maintaining the content” there from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15, pursuant under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

Per the report, Marvel is likely to pursue copyright infringement ligitation should the leaker be identified.

When previously asked for comment on the situation, a Reddit spokesperson only told Variety, “Reddit is committed to protecting our users’ privacy. We have rigorous processes in place to assess legal requests and object when appropriate.”

Variety also reports that Marvel requested similar information from Google, as the copyrighted information was apparently shared via Google Docs. The leak reportedly included 63 pages of transcribed dialogue from the movie, which came out a full month before its Feb. 17 premiere.

Even all the way through Avengers: Endgame, Marvel didn’t have much of a problem keeping its secrets under lock and key, but that’s changed in recent years, especially amid challenges that came up during the COVID-19 lockdown. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness all saw certain key details leak prior to their releases.
