Animax is available with English subtitles on the Reliance JioTV app and on channel number 444 on the set-top box television service. The subtitles are not hard-coded in the channel’s feed itself, but have to be enabled by going into the JioTV app’s settings.
While this option is available on the set-top box and the Android application, the JioTV app on iOS is not showing any option to enable subtitles at the time of this publication. Hopefully, this gets fixed soon as the channel comes out of the test phase.
Animax was spotted on the television streaming app in January, and has been in a testing phase since then. KC Global Media, which acquired Animax Asia from Sony Pictures Entertainment, brought the channel back in India. This was after Animax Asia was removed from Sony LIV in 2020.
Animax India was previously available in the country on TV from July 2004 to April 2017. The channel was then replaced with Sony Yay and shifted to Sony’s streaming platform.
In early February, in an official announcement, KC Global Media announced Animax’s entry into India. The company announced that fans can watch shows such as Golden Kamuy, Naruto, Kuroko’s Basketball, and Gintama on the channel. All of the programs will be available in Japanese audio with English subtitles. It is worth nothing that the channel has to adhere to censorship guidelines, which could make for a not-so-great viewing experience for fans.
