Ange’s telling answer in revealing 60 Minutes interview

Ange Postecoglou’s remarkable rise has seen him go from coaching South Melbourne to Glasgow Celtic, taking the Socceroos to two World Cups along the way.

But taking charge of Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur is easily Postecoglou’s biggest challenge yet.

Spurs are one of the biggest – and richest – clubs in the world, yet have failed to win a trophy in 15 years.

Elite managers Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte are among those who have failed to break that drought.

Also looming large is the future of star striker Harry Kane, England’s record goalscorer, with some of Europe’s biggest clubs mulling over $100m-plus offers.

For Postecoglou, though, he’s used to pulling off the impossible.

Ange’s bold message for Spurs

“A boy from the suburbs of Melbourne growing up in Prahran, ends up as a Premier League manager, that’s Hollywood script,” the 57-year-old told 60 Minutes.

“Me sitting here right now is probably the biggest miracle you’ll come across.”

Postecoglou has picked up silverware managing Brisbane Roar, Asian Cup success with Australia, the J League title with Yokohama Marinos in Japan and five trophies in two seasons with Celtic.

Ange to Spurs a ‘perfect’ fit

“Every club I’ve left I’ve left on the back of success,” he said.

Along the way, Postecoglou has built a reputation as a straight-talking, affable and charismatic figure. But despite the at-times easy-going veneer, he’s ready to make the difficult decisions to achieve success.

“I can’t promise it’s going to be a smooth ride, I can’t promise there’s not going to be a few bumps along the way,” he added.

“What makes you think I’m a nice guy?”

So is it ‘my way or the highway’, reporter Tara Brown asks?

“It has to be,” Postecoglou responded.
