Andy Murray calls out umpire for using ‘wrong’ rule in Monte Carlo

Andy Murray argued a rule with the chair umpire during his Monte Carlo Masters first round match. The Brit’s cap came off during a rally but the point continued, with Murray claiming it should have been a let. And he continued his debate with Carlos Bernardes in the changeover, claiming the official got it “wrong”.

Alex de Minaur was serving at 1-1 in the second set of his match against Murray when the 35-year-old’s cap fell off his head. The Aussie was able to win the point off a drop shot as Murray stayed at the back of the court expecting a let call to come.

And he was quick to approach the umpire’s chair after losing the point, believing that it shouldn’t have continued. “So when my hat falls off I’m supposed to play the point?” he quizzed Bernardes.

“He just hit a drop shot,” the umpire told him. But Murray retorted: “I’m aware that happened but I’ve never once played a point in my career where my hat has fallen off and you keep playing.”
