Android: These customisation features are coming first to Pixel phones, other Android users need to wait – Times of India

While the world was expecting big announcements regarding Android 14 at Google I/O, the company mainly focussed its presentation on the Android ecosystem. However, there were a few features for the Pixel smartphones that will debut in the next iteration of the mobile operating system. These include Magic Compose, lock screen and wallpaper customisation, and support for Night Mode for social media apps like Instagram.
“We’re introducing new ways to personalise your Android phone, powered by Google’s advances in generative AI technology. See how Android can help you transform the look and feel of your device across your messages, lock screen, wallpaper and more,” the company said in a statement.
Magic Compose in Messages
Magic Compose is a new Messages by Google feature which is powered by generative AI. It can help users choose a response from the suggested options that are based on the context of a user’s messages.

The options include different tones of messages, for example, concise, professional or “even written like Shakespeare himself!” Magic Compose rolls out this summer in beta.
Lock screen and wallpaper customisation
As a part of the company’s Material You theme, Google is expanding personalisation options to change the look of Android smartphones. With Android 14 launching later this year, users will be able to customise their lock screen with new shortcuts, clocks and a new monochrome colour theme.
Furthermore, Google will also roll out emoji wallpapers first to Pixel devices next month.

Emoji wallpaper lets users customise their devices using emoji combinations, patterns and colours. There is also a Cinematic wallpaper option that uses on-device machine learning networks to transform photos into 3D images. Users can also create a wallpaper with generative AI.
Night Mode support for social media apps
Google will also bring support for Night Mode and 10-bit HDR video in social apps like Instagram. Additionally, Google will introduce Ultra HDR in Android 14.
