Android: How Google’s ‘biggest Android problem’ continues – Times of India
In the period from April to June, Android 13 has experienced an expected increase in growth, moving from 12.1 per cent to 14.7 per cent.
The adoption of Android 13 has been relatively better than previous releases. This can be attributed partly to the quick rollout of the Android 13 update by Samsung, OnePlus, and other manufacturers.
It is uncertain how these metrics are obtained, but they are believed to rely on Android devices that have accessed the Google Play Store within a week, according to 9To5Google. The latest data comes from Android Studio, which helps developers to choose the minimum Android version that the app can run on.
Android 11 is the ‘most-used’ Android OS
Although brands such as OnePlus and Samsung have released Android 13 updates for their smartphones, most users still have installed older operating system versions.
Even though the share for Android 12, 11, and 10 have decreased slightly, Android 11 remains the most widely used version, with 23.1 per cent of Android smartphones running on it.
It is interesting to note that the only other Android version to experience growth during this time is Android Oreo, with a rise from 6.7 per cent to 8.3 per cent; however, this increase is still lower than the 9.5 per cent it had in January.
90% of iPhones are on the latest iOS
In comparison, Apple’s iOS 16, the latest operating system version for iPhones, is currently running on approximately 90 per cent of iPhones released in the last four years, and 81 per cent of all iPhones. On the other hand, iOS 15, the previous version, is estimated to be running on nearly 13 per cent of iPhones.
There is no segmentation between Android 12 and Android 12L, or smartphones and tablets, so there is no idea how many tablets have been updated to the Android 12L or Android 13. Meanwhile, 71 per cent of all iPads users have adopted the latest iPadOS 16.
