Anand Mahindra-backed IN10 Media launches new film studio

Anand Mahindra and Aditya Pittie-backed IN10 Media Network has launched a new film content studio, MovieVerse Studios, which will be helmed by Vivek Krishnani, who joined the company in June 2022 from Sony Pictures Entertainment India.

Krishnani said the film studio will produce content in Hindi and regional languages that cater to both the theatre-going audience and streaming viewers. The studio has unveiled a slate of six films in Hindi and Tamil.

“As part of our immediate development slate, we have four Hindi films and two Tamil films. As we expand our footprint in other regional languages, this number will continue to grow,” he said.

The studio will focus on producing small, medium and big-budget films. “Once the content has been developed, we will then partner with studios/OTT platforms to co-invest in a wide range of small and big-budget films ranging from Rs 15 crore to Rs 100 crore plus,” Krishnani added.

He also said that the studio is yet to firm up its release plan. “We are in the development stage of our lifecycle but are looking to share them with audiences in the first quarter of 2024.”

IN10 Media, which owns and operates TV channels like EPIC, ShowBox, Filamchi, Gubbare and Ishara, had seen its net loss surge 47% to Rs 113 crore in FY22 compared to the previous fiscal.According to the company’s financial data shared by Tofler, revenue from operations had surged almost four times to Rs 207 crore while expenses ballooned almost 2.5 times to Rs 321 crore.MovieVerse Studios plans to develop content across multiple genres, from drama and comedy to action and thriller.

The studio’s slate includes an action survival rescue drama based on a true story in partnership with Bake My Cake Films, helmed by Sandeep Leyzell and Shobhna Yadav. It will be directed by Umang Vyas.

The slate also includes a thriller in partnership with Faith Films’ Viki Rajani and Pavan Kripalani, who will direct the film. The studio has also lined up a supernatural drama with DING Entertainment. An action thriller drama co-produced by Ellipsis Entertainment’s Tanuj Garg and Atul Kasbekar is also part of the film slate.

It will release two Tamil films in partnership with TG Thyagarajan of Sathya Jyothi Films, which is southern India’s biggest film production and distribution company. Both films will be directed by Tamil director Binu Subramanyam.

The company, which also owns EPIC ON and DocuBay streaming services besides Juggernaut Productions, is owned by Script Stories Media, which holds a 99.99% stake in the company.
