Amy Shark apologises for awkward concert slip-up

Australian singer Amy Shark has spoken out after an embarrassing brain fade at her recent concert was leaked online.

Amy Shark has apologised for botching the name of an Australian city during her recent concert.

The 35-year-old singer recently held a show in Brisbane as part of her national Cry Forever tour, but accidentally opened up her set with, “Hey Gold Coast”, in a video that is doing the rounds on TikTok.

After an outcry from the crowd, Shark quickly corrected her slip-up, saying, “Brisbane … F**k (the) Gold Coast.”

The Everybody Rise songstress – who hails from the Gold Coast – said she was “super stoked” the awkward clip made its way to the internet, adding, “One of my finest moments on stage.”

She then apologised to her hometown fans on Instagram for throwing them “under the bus” in a bid to correct the slip-up.

“Gold Coast I am sorry for swearing at you I was just having a slight panic attack,” Shark said in an Instagram video. “I threw you under the bus and I shouldn’t have done that because you are my home town and I love you, please forgive me.”

Shark, whose real name is Amy Billings, then pleaded with her followers to still throw her a vote in the upcoming ARIA awards for Best Live Act.

“This year I am nominated for best live act, it’s a really special award for everyone in the team and the band, if you had fun at the Cry Forever shows please give it a vote,” she said.

“I am human guys and sometimes I am a hot mess, doesn’t mean I love you any less.”

Shark, who recently collaborated with Ed Sheeran and Keith Urban for her song Love Songs Ain’t For Us, shot to fame in Australia with her 2016 single hit single Adore, which came in at number 2 on the Triple J Hottest 100 that year.

She has since won 8 ARIA Music Awards from 22 nominations, including Best Pop Release three times in 2017, 2018 and 2020.

Shark is up for six awards at this year’s ARIAs, which will take place on November 24.
