‘American Idol’ fans push for Alanis Morissette to replace Katy Perry
Alanis Morissette won’t be “the one that got away” — if “American Idol” fans have their way.
Viewers are campaigning on social media to permanently remove Katy Perry as a judge after she was temporarily replaced this week by the Canadian songstress to mentor the show’s top eight.
Morissette, 48, filled in for Perry, 38, while she and co-judge Lionel Richie, 73 — who was replaced by Ed Sheeran — performed at the coronation concert held in honor of King Charles III.
Perry’s hiatus from the show came as several fans slammed the
“TGIF” singer for her rude onstage behavior.
Some viewers of “Idol” seemed to breathe a sigh of relief during the “Dark Horse” singer’s two-episode absence.
“I want you as a permanent judge,” exclaimed one fan to Morissette on Twitter.
“I’ve always enjoyed your music, but watching you on ‘American Idol’ and seeing how much you cared about these kids and how wonderful you were with them was awesome,” gushed a second Twitter user. “You seem like a very genuine person and you don’t see that much these days! Thank you for being you.”
A third claimed that Morissette’s critiques were “unselfishly intended to benefit the contestants” and that Perry and Richie could learn a lot from her.
One user pushed for both Richie and Perry to be replaced.
“It will be SOOOOOO nice watching ‘Idol’ tonight without having to hold the remote so I can ‘MUTE’ Perry and Richie every time they open their mouths,” blasted one user. “Now change those two judges out PERMANENTLY! Thank you, King Charles.”
The Post reached out to Perry and Morissette for comment.
Users of a Reddit thread dedicated to the vocal competition also said it was a nice change not to have Perry blowing “Hot n Cold” with contestants during the 2-hour episode.
“Alanis gave some good feedback. She could replace one of judges or be the 4th member,” stated one Reddit user.
“I thought Alanis’s comments were a breath of fresh air,” said another. “Positive but helpful and so much more meaty than ‘let me tell you something’ and ‘you’ve grown before our eyes’.”
Despite “waking up in Windsor,” Perry and Richie managed to shoot across the sky and check in with the ongoing competition through a livestream, and were joined by King Charles III and Queen Camilla, who made a “surprise” appearance.
Prior to her “Idol” appearance on Sunday, the “Teenage Dream” singer was spotted looking confused inside Westminster Abbey and then tripping and nearly falling to the ground following the ceremony.
The “ET” singer has been criticized by fans in the past for being “dismissive” of contestants as well as “waging psychological warfare” on singers.
Perry was also slammed last month for “mom-shaming” 25-year-old Sara Beth Liebe, who eventually quit the show.
The “Roar” singer was also booed for dissing another hopeful’s glittery costume.
