Amber Heard will appeal against the verdict in the defamation case against Johnny Depp

After a long battle, the court has finally announced that Johnny Depp won the infamous defamation case against Amber Heard.  The jury came to a unanimous decision that Amber Heard maliciously defamed Depp in the op-ed she wrote for the Washington Post in 2018. The latest update on the case is that Amber Heard is allegedly planning to appeal the verdict in the defamation case.

Deliberations on the case began in Fairfax, Virginia as Depp sued Amber Heard for $50 million dollars for defamation. To retaliate against the move, Amber Heard counter-sued Johnny Depp for $100 million dollars, stating that she had endured domestic abuse during her marriage with Depp. According to a report by a leading publication, Amber Heard is planning to appeal the verdict in this case. Alafair Hall, a spokesperson for Ms. Heard also said that she planned to appeal.

The actress has also taken to her social media to express disappointment. She wrote, “The disappointment I feel today is beyond words. I’m heartbroken that the mountain of evidence still was not enough to stand up to the disproportionate power, influence, and sway of my ex-husband. I’m even more disappointed with what this verdict means for other women. It is a setback. It sets back the clock to a time when a woman who spoke up and spoke out could be publicly shamed and humiliated. It sets back the idea that violence against women is to be taken seriously.”

In the op-ed written for The Washington Post, Amber Heard wrote that she was a “public figure representing domestic abuse.” The opinion piece was titled, ‘I spoke up against sexual violence and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change.’
