Ambati Rayudu announces retirement from IPL, says no ‘U-turn’ this time

Chennai Super Kings batsman Ambati Rayudu on Sunday announced that the Indian Premier League final will be his last game in the tournament.

Rayudu has already retired from the international game after he was dropped from the 2019 World Cup squad and a few years later from domestic action, but retracted his retirement to play for the Chennai team.

The 38-year-old Hyderabadi player tweeted on Sunday that his game against Gujarat Titans would be his last in the league, adding that there won’t be any U-turn this time around after scoring 139 runs in 15 games.

In 55 ODIs for India, Rayudu scored 1694 runs with three hundreds and 10 fifties at an average of 47-plus.

Rayudu has been a vital member of the Chennai team that has made nine final appearances and is gearing up for its tenth, hoping to win their fifth trophy and equal the most number of trophies won by a single team.

As of Sunday, he has played 203 IPL games, scoring 4329 runs at a strike-rate of 127 with 22 half-centuries and a single century. The 602 runs in the 2018 season for CSK was his best effort.

Rayudu could be the second person to leave CSK this season, with long-time skipper MS Dhoni hinting that this could be his last season for the Chennai team. The 41-year-old follows the departure of many big names over the years, many part of the old guard that served the Super Kings since the IPL began in 2008.
