Amazing Spider-Man Trailer Assembles a Sinister Group of Villains – But Why?
Marvel releases a trailer for Amazing Spider-Man #1, which is the upcoming relaunch from Zeb Wells and John Romita Jr. The video teases the sinister enemies Peter Parker will face in the book.
Marvel Comics released a trailer for writer Zeb Wells, artist John Romita Jr., inker Scott Hanna and colorist Marcio Menyz’s upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #1, and it teases a bunch of villains facing off against Peter Parker.
The trailer, which you can see below, shows off art from Amazing Spider-Man #1. The footage teases a number of villains against whom Spider-Man will find himself, including Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, Martin Li/Mister Negative, Whitney Frost/Madame Masque, and many, many more.
Launching to coincide with Spider-Man’s 60th anniversary, Marvel’s plot synopsis for Amazing Spider-Man #1 teases the titular hero on the outs with pretty much everyone, including the Fantastic Four, Avengers and Aunt May. He’ll find himself fighting against Doctor Otto Octavius/Doc Ock and a bunch of other villains, presumably including those shown in the trailer above. Just why everyone has turned against Spider-Man isn’t known at this time.
Speaking about the book following its announcement, Wells and Romita Jr. expressed their excitement to be working together for the 60th anniversary of the character. Both have previously worked on the character.
Following writer Nick Spencer’s exit from Amazing Spider-Man last year, the book has dealt with the “Beyond” storyline. Helmed by Wells, Patrick Gleason, Kelly Thompson, Sara Pichelli, Cody Ziglar, Michael Dowling, Ivan Fiorelli, Calros Gómez, Saladin Ahmed, Paco Medina, Jed MacKay and Jorge Fornes, the “Beyond” storyline saw Ben Reilly stepping up as Spider-Man after Peter suffered a life-threatening injury. As Spider-Man, Ben works closely with the mysterious and dangerous Beyond Corporation. At this time, it’s not clear how, if at all, the relaunch will connect to that storyline.
Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, Spider-Man first appeared in 1962’s Amazing Fantasy #15. After being bitten by a radioactive spider, teenager Peter Parker receives a number of typical superhero abilities, such as superstrength and reflexes, as well as a number of traits associated with spiders, like the ability to cling to walls. Spider-Man is one of Marvel’s most recognizable creations and has appeared in various other media, including video games, TV and movies.
Amazing Spider-Man #1 releases on April 6. The book features a main cover from Romita Jr. and variants from Humberto Ramos, Mark Bagley, Travis Charest, Jim Cheung, Russell Dauterman, Skottie Young, Bengal, Patrick Gleason, Peach Momoko, Romina Jones, Stanley “Artgerm” Lau and Rose Besch.
