Amazing Spider-Man #900 Merges the Sinister Six Into a Deadly Mega-Villain

Spider-Man will face a mega-villain called Sinister Adaptoid, a being with all of the powers of the Sinister Six, in The Amazing Spider-Man #900.

Spider-Man will once again face the Sinister Six in the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man #900 — only, this time, the familiar foes are all operating as a single mega-villain entity.

Marvel’s milestone The Amazing Spider-Man #900 issue arrives in June. Written by Zeb Wells and illustrated by Ed McGuiness, the upcoming issue is a relaunch of the title for Spider-Man’s 60th anniversary from Wells and artist John Romita Jr. Taking place in the aftermath of the new Amazing Spider-Man run’s first arc, Amazing Spider-Man #900 sees Peter Park recovering from his battle with Tombstone when the iconic Sinister Six re-emerges as a new threat for him to take on. Rather than having to challenge them all individually, however, Spider-Man must fight them in the form of a deadly mega-villain called Sinister Adaptoid.

Sinister Adaptoid is created after someone from Spider-Man’s past captured the Sinister Six and merged the powers of Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Kraven the Hunter, Electro, Mysterio and Sandman into one entity. “There’s nothing I love more than a giant-size Spider-Man anniversary issue, and I’m pulling out all the — ah, what does it matter what I think,” Amazing Spider-Man editor Nick Lowe said. “ED MCGUINNESS is drawing a super-sized Spider-story. Who isn’t going to check this out???”

“Zeb and Ed are trying to do the impossible — top Lee & Ditko’s Amazing Spider-Man #1!” Lowe continued. “And that’s not the only thing that #900 has — including some shocks that are going to make you say WHAT WERE THEY THINKING?!?!”

Super-Adaptoid is a Marvel character that first appeared in Tales of Suspense #82, created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby and Gene Colan. The original being was an android that A.I.M constructed with a shard of the Cosmic Cube in an effort to defeat Captain America. Having the ability to copy other heroes’ powers, Super-Adaptoid impersonated various Avengers characters, such as Edwin Jarvis and Bucky Barnes, during its first appearances before it fled to the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning.

Super-Adaptoid appeared and copied several other heroes over the years, including the X-Men and some members of the Fantastic Four. While Super-Adaptoid has fought Spider-Man on multiple occasions in the past, the newly formed Sinister Adaptoid marks a new threat that Peter will have to face.

When Marvel announced the Spider-Man relaunch, the company teased that, “Peter’s on the outs with the FF. He’s on the outs with the Avengers. He’s even on the outs with Aunt May! After a terrible and mysterious incident, no one wants to see Spider-Man – except for Doctor Octopus. Ock’s on Spider-Man’s tail and the Master Planner has something truly terrible planned for when he gets his tentacles on Spidey. All that, and Tombstone makes a move that will remind readers why he’s one of Spider-Man’s most terrifying villains…”

Marvel also released a teaser image showing Spider-Man battling Sinister Adaptoid with a green suit, tentacles and other features.”What did Spider-Man do?” Lowe previously said. “Spider-Man doesn’t turn sixty every year, and we are going BIG with this run cramming it with the biggest WTF moments Spidey has ever had. Zeb and JRJR will go down in history as one of the best creative teams ever!”

The Amazing Spider-Man #900 is written by Zeb Wells and illustrated by Ed McGuinness, with cover art by John Romita Jr. The issue goes on sale June 22 from Marvel Comics.
