Amazing Spider-Man #72 Inches Closer to Spidey’s Apparent Sinister War Death (Exclusive)

Marvel Comics presents an exclusive preview of Amazing Spider-Man #72, by Nick Spencer, Federico Sabbatini, Zé Carlos, Marcelo Ferreira and Carlos Gómez.

Marvel Comics has given CBR an exclusive preview of The Amazing Spider-Man #72, by Nick Spencer, Federico Sabbatini, Zé Carlos, Marcelo Ferreira, Carlos Gómez, Alex Sinclair and VC’s Joe Caramagna. The preview, which is a tie-in to “Sinister War,” puts Peter Parker/Spider-Man in mortal danger that may just bring him closer to being replaced by Ben Reilly/Scarlet Spider in the future.

In the preview, Peter faces off against Otto Octavius/Doc Ock’s Sinister Six, who are competing against five other teams at the behest of Harry Osborn/Kindred. One of Peter’s best friends prior to his death, Kindred has been on a demented quest to make Spider-Man pay for his perceived crimes and failure to truly use his power responsibly. Amazing Spider-Man #72 sees Electro, Kraven the Hunter, Mysterio and Sandman all landing big blows on Spider-Man. However, it’s Doc Ock who lands a particularly brutal one, using his appendages to slice Spider-Man up.

While Peter’s death hasn’t been confirmed as of writing, there’s a lot of speculation that the hero will die either at the end of the “Sinister War” arc or shortly after. That speculation is informed by marketing materials for Amazing Spider-Man after Spencer’s run ends with #74.  In June, a teaser for #SpiderManBeyond showed a badly hurt Peter being kissed by Mary Jane Watson. Later, a cover for Amazing Spider-Man #75 by Arthur Adams showed Peter and Ben swinging together. Adams cover for Amazing Spider-Man #76, though, showed Peter in intensive care.

You can see CBR’s exclusive preview of Amazing Spider-Man #72 below alongside the solicitation information for the issue. On sale Aug. 25, Amazing Spider-Man #72 features covers from Mark Bagley, John Dell and Brian Reber; Carlos Gómez and Morry Hollowell; David Baldeón and Israel Silva; and Inhyuk Lee.
