All 31 flights cancelled at Heathrow and Gatwick today amid travel chaos

Travel disruption has continued today with 31 flights cancelled at Gatwick and Heathrow airports. Across the country airports have been hit with chronic delays as a result of staff shortages in the aviation industry.

It looks set to be a chaotic summer at UK airports after easyJet announced plans to cut 7 per cent of its 160,000 flights scheduled between July and September while British Airways workers based at Heathrow have voted to strike in a dispute over pay.

Earlier this month, Unite’s General secretary Sharon Graham told the Sunday Mirror: “Airlines assumed, wrongly, that people who had either been made redundant or got out of the industry would come back on a pittance pay. That’s not going to happen. There is now a chronic shortage of staff and I can’t see how it’s going to change by July. If they don’t get their act together, this chaos could go on until next year.
