MANILA, Philippines—Alex Eala zoomed past home bet Lorena Solar Donoso, 6-3, 6-2, in the first round of the W40 Palma del Rio in Spain on Tuesday (Manila time).

The Filipino ace made quick work of the Spanish wildcard, needing only an hour and 21 minutes to secure a spot in the next round.

After taking the first set in dominant fashion, 6-3, Eala opened the second with a 3-0 blitz.

Up next for the 18-year-old prodigy is a matchup against Australia’s Talia Gibson.

Gibson had to overcome Hong Kong’s Adithya Karunaratne in her own bracket in the Round of 32 to face Eala.

Eala is coming off a quarterfinals loss at the Open Villa De Tauste-Tomas Arrieta and Altra Logistica doubles.

The week before that, Eala suffered an early exit in a singles ITF tournament after swallowing a loss at the hands of Destanee Aiava from Australia.
