WhatsApp tests new features before rolling them out – and this happens in the “beta” app.

The WhatsApp investigators at WABetaInfo have checked out the app to uncover the best changes in the pipeline.

For instance, it’ll soon be possible to share voice notes as status updates.

And several of the changes have already dropped on the general release version of WhatsApp – the one used by billions of people around the world.

Here are some of the changes…

  • The ability to search for messages by date (live now)
  • Drag and drop media to WhatsApp from other apps (live now)
  • Block users within the chat list (in beta)
  • Share voice notes via status updates (in beta)
  • Transfer chat history between Android devices (under development)
  • Send photos with their original quality (under development)

Some of the features are live right now.

The changes in beta are likely to land on the general release version of WhatsApp much sooner.

But it’s impossible to say when any of them will land.

It could take days, weeks or even months for WhatsApp to roll them out.

If you’re very impatient, signing up to the WhatsApp beta is an easy way to get features first.

Follow our guide below to find out how.
