Halyna Hutchins’ family have filed a lawsuit for wrongful death against Alec Baldwin, following Hutchins’ death on the set of Rust in October 2021.

Baldwin was holding the revolver during an on-set rehearsal when it fired and fatally injured director of photography Hutchins.

Attorney Brian Panish, representing Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins, and their son, Andros, held a press conference in Los Angeles on Tuesday to announce the lawsuit again Baldwin and ‘others who are responsible for the safety on set, and whose reckless behavior and cost-cutting led to the senseless, tragic death of Halyna Hutchins.’

According to Panish, his firm uncovered multiple ‘violations of industry standards’ during an independent investigation.

Director Joel Souza was also wounded in the shooting that killed Hutchins.

Baldwin has maintained that Hutchins told him to aim the gun just off camera and pull the hammer back, and that it fired when he let go.

He has also said he didn’t know the gun contained a live round.

In a video presented on Tuesday at the press conference, the Hutchins’ lawyers alleged that Baldwin had turned down training for the specific kind of gun draw he was filming that day on set.
