Alcaraz fears being denied Wimbledon entry like Federer after beating Djokovic

Carlos Alcaraz has joked that he will make sure to remember his membership card if he ever plans to return to the All England Club when Wimbledon isn’t on to avoid being denied entry like Roger Federer last year following his incredible win over Novak Djokovic in the final. Alcaraz became the first man in 10 years to defeat Djokovic on Centre Court in a near-five hour epic encounter.

The match ebbed and flowed between both players as the top two seeds put on a show in front of the packed out crowd. Djokovic managed to rally from 2-1 down in sets to force through a decider.

But it was crowd-favourite Alcaraz who managed to get the job done, collapsing to the floor to take in the applause. The Spaniard looked close to tears as he lifted aloft the famous Wimbledon trophy.

However, those tears turned to laughter during his post-match interview on court. Alcaraz had Djokovic smiling and laughing – even hiding behind his runner-up trophy at one point.

But Alcaraz’s win at Wimbledon now automatically sees him become a member of the All England Club to visit the grounds whenever he likes. Former champions often stop in to the All England Club with eight-time champion Federer stopping in for a flying visit last year after his retirement.

However, the Swiss explained in December 2022 that he was denied entry to the club after forgetting his membership card. Alcaraz clearly had the story in the back of his mind while holding the coveted trophy.

“It’s great, to be a member here at such an iconic club it’s very special for me,” he started. “I have to, you know, bring the card.
