Airfares to go down in January 2023 due to lower fuel surcharge – CAB
MANILA, Philippines — Travelers can anticipate cheaper airfares starting next month, according to the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB), as the fuel surcharge for January 2023 is expected to decrease.
CAB executive director Carmelo Arcilla said Tuesday that from Level 8 in December, the fuel surcharge will go down to Level 7 from January 1.
“Ngayong January 1 bababa pa tayo ng level 7. Magiging 7 sa January 1. Malaking bagay din ‘yan sa ating mga riding public,” he said in a public briefing.
(On January 1, the level of the fuel surcharge will go down to 7. That’s a big thing for our riding public.)
“Sana magpatuloy, although volatile ang presyo sa pandaigdigang merkado at hindi ma-predict, kaya mayroon tayong ganitong taas-baba,” he added.
(We hope this continues, although the prices are volatile in the global market and we cannot predict them, that’s why this up-down trend.)
Arcilla also said that the lower fuel surcharge will depend on the distance traveled, but he insisted that the difference will be “significant.”
Under CAB Resolution No. 25, which provides the fuel surcharge matrix, Level 7 rate ranges from P219-P739 per one-way domestic flight, and P722.71-P5,373.69 per one-way international flight.
The fuel surcharge matrix ranges from Level 0 to 20.
