AIIMS BBS introduces millets in diet of students, indoor patients – Times of India

BHUBANESWAR: With an aim to provide healthy and nutritious food to the students and indoor patients, AIIMS Bhubaneswar has introduced millets in their diet. Executive director Ashutosh Biswas on Monday kickstarted the process of distributing millet added food items to the admitted patients.
Biswas said they will provide the patients the essential fibres they need to recover quickly. “We are committed to provide the best care to our patients and this is one of the many steps we are taking in that direction,” he said, adding, “Students will also get rich nutrients and minerals from the millet, which will take care of their weight and immunity.”
The executive director had lunch with the students in the dining hall. The students and the admitted patients were very happy having millets as a part of their dietary plan, said the official statement of the national institute.
“Introduction of millets in the diet is a significant step towards raising awareness about the health benefits of millets. It will inspire people to include millet in their daily diet and promote the consumption of traditional foods that are both healthy and delicious,” said the official statement of the national institution.
A meeting was conducted in the institute to create awareness about the health benefits of millets and spread the message to the public. A handbook on millet written by Biswas and dentistry department head Ashok Kumar Jena were distributed among the public.
The institute started this initiative to mark ‘Utkal Dibas’ and G20 Jan Bhagidari campaign. It has planned a series of events for the month under Jan Bhagidari programme.
