A 15-year-old Russell starred in 1966’s Follow Me Boys, the final live-action movie produced by Disney who died from lunch cancer just two weeks after its release. In his final filmed appearance two months before his death, the animation legend actually predicted an amazing acting future for the rising star.
On top of this, one of the last things the 65-year-old wrote at his desk just before being hospitalised included “TV Projects in Production: Ready for Production or Possible for Escalation and Story”. One of the notes beneath included the child actor’s name spelt wrong as “Kirt Russell”. So his name was one of the last things Disney wrote – but not actually his final words.
Russell isn’t the only big star Costa has been playing of late, admitting of his Robin Williams viral video: “The powerful response to that proof of concept short made it really clear that his loss is still largely felt across the world. It was cathartic to play his character at a level I always wanted to. Robin was so beautifully human. That’s by far what I love most about him; his humanity.”
