Advice for People Taking GCSE Art – Roshni Patel – Merstham Park School

Are you taking arts as a subject for your GCSEs? Or have you already started them? Are you worried? Stressed? Anxious? There is no need to worry now because I am here to help you out. Here are three simple pieces of advice I encourage you to follow:

Make sure you keep up with your work. When set a task, try to work on it immediately and get it done. Trust me when I say leaving work unfinished or to the last minute is extremely stressful and can be avoided if you prioritise this. This means that you stay organised and never feel stressed about a large workload.

Find Something that you like doing. Everyone has some element in art that they like to look at or a media they love to work in. Perhaps you already know what it is. Perhaps you don’t. Whatever it is, do some research and discover what it is. This will do you great in the long run. Do you want to spend hours on something you have no interest in? I know you don’t, so make sure you like what you are doing.

Finally, annotate everything. I mean every single thing you do. This is helpful because it shows and explains to the examiner every step of your process. It also means that whatever you do, even if you don’t believe that it is good, you can use it to your advantage by showing that you are able to reflect upon your work and build upon it.

These are all tips that I wish I knew before I started my coursework and have learnt a lot later on. And, I hope that knowing these will make a significant change to your work.
