‘Adored’ Dally M winner’s bombshell NRL return

Wide World of Sports told you it was on two months ago – and now it’s happened.

Roger Tuivasa-Sheck is coming back to the NRL with the Warriors.

The club made the announcement on Thursday night that their former inspirational skipper is returning to league after two mixed seasons in Kiwi rugby union.

The development is the latest skirmish in the cross-code war that has seen rugby union poach Roosters star Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii for 2025 and chase several other league stars.

It’s a major coup for the Warriors – Tuivasa-Sheck is regarded as one of the most respected sportsmen in New Zealand and is adored by fans of both codes.

His two-year contract with the Auckland Blues expires at the end of this season.

The Dally M Medallist in 2018, has signed a three-year deal with the Warriors.

“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here at the Blues and made some great mates over the past two seasons,” Tuivasa-Sheck said in a statement released by his Auckland rugby team.

“Out of respect for the Blues, my teammates, coaches and of course the fans, I’m not going into too much detail about my next move. One thing was clear to me though, once I knew what my future held, I wanted to announce this and quickly shift the focus back to this season.”

First-year Warriors coach Andrew Webster is keen to work with the champion fullback.

“Roger came to the club in my second season as an assistant coach in 2016 and he had a huge impact on the squad,” Webster said.

“That first year was cut short by his ACL injury but it was brilliant working with him. I’m super excited knowing he’s coming back to the club.”
