Aces of Thunder Military Action Game for PSVR2 Announced by War Thunder Creators

A War Thunder spinoff game was announced today by Gaijin Entertainment. This new game is going to be in development for the PlayStation VR2 platform, and it will be focused exclusively on aerial combat. The game in question is called Aces of Thunder. It will allow players to use the PSVR2’s features to fully immerse themselves in the role of a combat aircraft pilot and take down the opposition against other players online.

The announcement trailer for Aces of Thunder can be seen below:

Aces of Thunder uses the PSVR2 headset’s features, including its high-quality, high-resolution OLED screen, motion sensing and eye tracking, and new controllers with haptic feedback and touch sensing. This will allow players to feel immersed in the role of a combat pilot. The game will also feature accurate flight and damage models derived from War Thunder.

The game will be distributed on a paid model, meaning that all the aircraft that’d be part of the game or its future add-ons will be available upon purchase. Players will also be able to apply cosmetic items to customize their planes and add a degree of pizazz. Battles will occur exclusively from the cockpit view and with complete control over all flight systems. As such, players will learn how to fly the aircraft with nearly-real accuracy.

The game will first focus on the legendary planes of World War II, such as the American fighter P-51 Mustang and British Spitfire, while the future add-ons will bring combat aircraft from other eras. All game modes in Aces of Thunder will offer competitive online battles with other virtual pilots in different formats (team versus team, single duels, with custom settings, and more).

As mentioned before, the game will be developed by a new in-house team at Gaijin Entertainment, which is well known for its work on War Thunder. War Thunder has managed to boast a roster of over 1,700 military vehicles released across multiple updates. Additionally, the game has also managed to keep players connected through the power of crossplay, allowing all users across multiple platforms to take on skirmishes.

Aces of Thunder promises a lot for a PSVR2 title, and it certainly seems like the game can accomplish this goal with the development team that’s currently handling the game. Unfortunately, no release date for the project has been provided, but we’ll be sure to update you when that comes around, so make sure to stay tuned.
