Abandoned dogs found with heartbreaking note attached to crates

Rescuers were devastated after discovering two young dogs abandoned outside their pet shelter in Georgia, US with nothing but a handwritten note asking that the dogs be looked after.

The message briefly told the shelter about the dogs’ names and breeds and requested that it “take good care of them”.

The oldest of the two dogs is an Australian Sheperd mix called Simba, and the second, called Nala, is a 12-week-old German shepherd mix whose exact birthday is unknown, according to the note.

The ex-owners also broke down some of the dogs’ key personality traits and skills, with additional information detailing their obedience to various instructions.

In an attempt to get more information about the dogs’ background, the shelter posted an entry on Facebook reaching out to their owners.

It reassured them that there would be no “judgment or criticism” about their decision to let go of the pups, and asked other Facebook users to be sympathetic towards the former pet owners.

The post read: “We do not know this person’s story or what is going on in their life and we are not here to pass judgment about their difficult decision.”

Other Facebook users responded positively, with one writing: “I applaud the responsible people who left the pups. They loved them enough to do the right this.

“I would just love to hug them. We don’t know their story, but we do know they tried to do the right thing and ensure the pups were safe and cared for.”

A representative from Forsyth County Animal Shelter told The Dodo: “There has been a huge community response which has been largely positive but no contact from the person.

They continued: “We are still hopeful that perhaps they will reach out, but in the meantime, the dogs are comfortable and well cared for.”

Though pet abandonment can have harmful consequences, there are a great number of reasons canines are given to shelters.

A common issue faced by pet owners is financial constraints or having limited time to adequately look after their dogs, which need to be fed, walked, and brought to vets.

Pet Adoption Statistics show that around 3.9 million dogs are abandoned or given to shelters every year, but a staggering 74.1 percent of lost dogs can be reunited with their owners with good identification.
