Aaron Rodgers’ Jets teammates already noticing drastic shift in locker room

Aaron Rodgers’ Jets teammates are already noticing the difference the future Hall of Fame quarterback is making in the locker room.

Solomon Thomas, who is entering his second season with New York (and lived through the Zach Wilson experiment), noted the drastic shift in the locker room that has taken place since Rodgers joined the team this spring in a trade from the Packers.

“The room is buzzing right now — the building is buzzing — and it’s buzzing for a reason,” Thomas said to ESPN.

“You bring in a solidified Hall of Famer like Aaron Rodgers and it’s going to change some things. His leadership, his knowledge, the way he plays the game — you know he’s going to put up points and you know he’s going to play smart football. It brings a whole new youthfulness around this team, even for the vets.”

Rodgers joined the Jets in April, ending an 18-year career with the Packers that featured four MVP awards and a Super Bowl championship in 2011.

Wilson, the No. 2 overall pick in 2021, opened last season on the sidelines after suffering an injury in the preseason.

Though he returned to action in a Week 4 win against the Steelers, Wilson flamed out in a big way, starting just nine games and completing only 54.5 percent of his passes for six touchdowns and seven interceptions.

Wilson wound up being replaced by backup Mike White, who signed with the Dolphins in free agency this offseason.

The locker room was clearly much more behind White, with players wearing T-shirts that said “Mike F’n White” before a game in December.

The lack of belief in Wilson, who just two years ago, was drafted to be the face of the franchise, spilled out into the offseason, with players such as Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner openly lobbying for Rodgers to join the team on social media.

Now, with Rodgers officially in the fold, there’s no quarterback controversy whatsoever.

Rodgers has been seen bonding with his new teammates all over New York, even sitting courtside with Gardner at a Knicks playoff game at Madison Square Garden last month.

Thomas, who was also a top draft pick (he went No. 3 overall to the 49ers in 2017), joined the Jets in 2022, appearing in all 17 games last season and logging 26 tackles.
