Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo power red-hot Yankees past Reds in 10 innings

CINCINNATI — On a road trip that has included just about everything — and still has one more game left on Sunday — at least one thing has remained consistent for the Yankees.

Pitch to Aaron Judge at your own risk.

Judge remained on fire Saturday, going 4-for-4 with a walk and three RBIs, including a single that drove in the go-ahead run in the 10th inning of a 7-4 win over the Reds at Great American Ball Park.

With the newly acquired Greg Allen on third base and one out in the top of the 10th, the Reds decided to go after Judge. Reliever Ian Gibaut got Judge to swing through two pitches, but he didn’t miss the third, lining it over the third baseman’s head for the 5-4 lead.

It was Judge’s softest hit of the day, registering at 85.8 mph off the bat after he recorded exit velocities of 115.1 mph, 103.9 mph and 89.9 mph on his first three hits. But it was the most clutch of them all.

Anthony Rizzo followed with a two-run home home run, his second in as many days, to make it 7-4.

That provided breathing room for Ryan Weber, who pitched a perfect bottom of the 10th for the save.

Besides Judge and Rizzo, the Yankees also got key offensive contributions from Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Ben Rortvedt, who was making his debut with the club.

Jhony Brito, after turning in a strong start Monday against the Blue Jays in which he was preceded by an opener, was less sharp on Saturday, giving up four runs across four innings in which he walked four and struck out six.

In the first inning, Brito balked Matt McLain to second base, which allowed him to score on an ensuing single. In the third, Brito walked the bases loaded with two outs before an infield single by Spencer Steer put the Reds back up 2-1.

Then in the fourth, Brito got two quick outs again before he gave up a two-run home run to No. 9 hitter Luke Maile that staked Cincinnati to a 4-1 lead.

But the Yankees answered right back in the top of the fifth, with six straight hits, to take Brito off the hook.

Kiner-Falefa got it started by belting his second home run of the season (both in his last two starts), a solo shot off right-hander Luke Weaver that made it 4-2.

Rortvedt, after he doubled in the third and scored on Judge’s rocket single, came up next and roped a line-drive single. Gleyber Torres followed with a single of his own before Judge came through with an RBI double to pull the Yankees within one.

Rizzo kept the rally going with an RBI single that tied the score, but Judge was waved home on the play and was easily thrown out at the plate.

DJ LeMahieu added a two-out single, but Harrison Bader popped out to the catcher to end the inning with the score still tied.
