A56 Chester Road closed due to ‘police incident’ – latest updates
A stretch of the A56 Chester Road in Greater Manchester has been closed in both directions as a result of what is being described as a “police incident”.
The road in Stretford has been closed in both directions during the early hours of the morning from the A5145 Kingsway to Davyhulme Road East.
At just after 4am, Transport for Greater Manchester said the road is likely to be closed for the next few hours.
The reason given for the closure is a “police incident” but the nature of the incident has not yet been divulged.
Bus services from Arriva and Stagecoach could be affected.
A tweet from Transport for Greater Manchester said: “A56 Chester Road, Stretford. Road closed in both directions from A5145 Kinkgsway to Davyhulme Road East.
“@arrivanorthwest @StagecoachGM services may be affected. Due to a police incident, road likely to be closed for the next few hours.”
An update from the traffic monitoring service Inrix at 4.19am said: “A56 Chester Road in both directions closed due to police incident from Davyhulme Road East to A5145 Kingsway.
“The road has been closed since the early hours of Saturday morning.”
