‘A wasted year’: Great slams Saints’ form slump
Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes has slammed St Kilda’s recent form slump, saying their season so far has been “wasted” as coach Ross Lyon looks to guide his side to a finals berth.
“It’s been a wasted year in essence,” Cornes said on Nine’s Footy Classified on Monday night.
“You could mount the case that they are worse this year on some metrics, their struggle to score has been well documented.

“I think they expected improvement.”
St Kilda have won nine games so far in 2023 and sit sixth on the ladder, but have lost five of their last seven outings.
Cornes further explained his worries around the Saints game plan not holding up against champion sides of the competition.
“Ross Lyon is starting to release the situation he is in and how much is needed to fix it,” he said.
Leading AFL journalist Caroline Wilson dug into the deeper issues plaguing the Saints behind the scenes, that she believes are translating into their recent form slump.
“There’s a little bit of disharmony at the top,” she said.Nine’s Footy Classified on Monday.

Essendon champion Matthew Lloyd called for Lyon to look within and take accountability for their scoring issues and inability to stop the Gold Coast Suns on Saturday.
“The Ross Lyon effect was there early,” Lloyd said on Monday night.
”He’s got to look at himself as well as the personnel that’s out there to get up to speed with how the best sides play the game.”
St Kilda face 17th-placed North Melbourne on Sunday at Marvel Stadium, in a must-win game to keep their finals hopes alive.
