A Place In The Sun’s Scarlette Douglas on injury woes before Soccer Aid

A Place In The Sun presenter Scarlette Douglas ended up in hospital needing urgent medical attention on her torn calf muscle after injuring herself during Soccer Aid practice earlier this year.

The 36-year-old, who is making history as the first female celebrity from a non-sporting background, has since undergone hours of physiotherapy in the hope that she will be fit enough to play this Sunday.

In an update, determined Scarlette told Express.co.uk: “It’s bad but you know what, I’m fine. I’m still smiling, I’ve got my medication, I’ll be strapped up – I will be on the pitch.”

When asked whether she is in a lot of pain, the I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! star admitted: “It is sore, but I’ve been in pain pain and this is more of an achy pain.

“I’ve been having physio every week, multiple times a week. It has taken a while and it is a shame that it’s happened, but I’m still here,” she added at the training session for the celebs on Friday.

Giving an insight into what her tactic might be on Sunday night, Scarlette proposed: “As long as I stand near the goal, I can just let it hit me and then I can score the winner!”

Coached by Stormzy, Harry Redknapp, David Seaman, Vicky McClure and Emma Hayes, England are hoping they can put an end to their losing streak after not securing a win since 2018.

However, they may have some tough competition from World XI players including Usain Bolt, Tommy Fury, Roberto Carlos and top scorer Kem Cetinay.

The money raised for Soccer Aid for UNICEF goes towards the fight against malnutrition, keeping children safe in times of crisis and may help to provide vaccines against preventable diseases.

Soccer Aid for UNICEF airs Sunday at 6.30pm live and exclusive on ITV1, ITVX and STV.
