Original article: April 11, 2022 (5:15 PM ET): BlackBerry fans may be in for a treat, with Unihertz teasing a phone that appears to be inspired by the iconic brand.

BlackBerry fans have had a tumultuous few years. The one-time leader in mobile failed to adapt to the changes Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android brought to the market and quickly fell out of favor. Even a switch to Android as its operating system couldn’t stop the brand’s decline. Nonetheless, thanks to its ubiquitous keyboard, the brand continues to have a diehard base of fans — fans that may be about to get a BlackBerry-esque Android phone from Unihertz.

Unihertz already makes several different lines of smartphones, with an emphasis on being a little different than the big players, sporting designs that are more unique and tend to be throwbacks to years past. Some of the company’s designs are already reminiscent of BlackBerry phones, but the company is teasing what may be its most BlackBerry-like model yet:

Something is coming soon…
Just stay tuned!????

What little can be seen in the photo appears very similar to the BlackBerry Key 2. Aside from that, not much else is known about the new model, including release date, name, or specs.

This isn’t the first time companies have tried to resurrect BlackBerry. Onward Mobility was the latest company to give it a go, initially being granted a license to make new BlackBerry models before that license was pulled. Nonetheless, if Unihertz can nail the keyboard and typing experience that made BlackBerry famous, combined with the familiarity of Android, it may have a hit on its hands.
