A Major Marvel Hero Announces Mayoral Candidacy in Devil’s Reign Variant Cover
Dan Panosian’s spoiler variant cover for Devil’s Reign #6 finds a major street-level Marvel hero on the campaign trail.
WARNING: The following article contains spoilers for Devil’s Reign #6 by Chip Zdarsky, Marco Checchetto, Marcio Menyz and VC’s Clayton Cowles, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
The Marvel Universe’s original Hero for Hire, Luke Cage, is officially on his way to becoming Mayor of New York City.
Following the release of the sixth and final issue of Devil’s Reign #6 on April 6, artist Dan Panosian revealed his official “spoiler variant” cover for the comic. The cover sees Luke on the campaign trail — and from the look of things, the people of New York have Power Man’s back.
Since the start of the Devil’s Reign event series, Luke has expressed his desire to unseat the villainous Wilson Fisk/Kingpin as Mayor, ultimately announcing his candidacy. In the newly-released issue #6, Daredevils Matt Murdock and Elektra Natchios finally bring Fisk down, resulting in the Kingpin’s arrest and pending removal as Mayor of New York.
Upon hearing the news, Luke’s wife, Jessica Jones, points out that the mayoral race is now a lot easier — if not basically over. “Oh my god. The hits just keep coming,” she says. “Wilson Fisk was just arrested. Daredevil got him. Wow… looks like you’re running unopposed, Mr. Mayor.”
Written by Chip Zdarsky, illustrated by Marco Checchetto, colored by Marcio Menyz and lettered by VC’s Clayton Cowles, Devil’s Reign #6 is on sale now from Marvel Comics.
