Verizon came out with a list of what objects not to place your Wi-Fi router near and it had some surprising names.

So when you’re forking out for an expensive Wi-Fi router and package, make sure you don’t make simple mistakes.

According to Verizon and EyeNetworks, a wireless broadband service company, the most common place individuals put their Wi-Fi routers near is other electronic devices, such as a TV.

“Before installing your wireless home network, you should consider placing your router at a location to ensure you aren’t limiting the range by its distance to any barriers or interferences that may impact the wireless signal,” Verizon explained.

Verizon and EyeNetworks confirm placing your Wi-Fi router next to your TV is the greatest cause of a weakened Wi-Fi signal.

If you are able to, the best way to ensure a strong Wi-Fi performance is to place the router in the center of your home.

Another way to ensure a strong connection is to place your router 10 feet away from other Wi-Fi transmitting devices.

Another way to improve Wi-Fi performance according to EyeNetworks is to make sure that the Wi-Fi router is away from any other Bluetooth-receptive devices, such as:

The reason Bluetooth devices cause weakened Wi-Fi connections is that the Bluetooth signal jumps into the frequency range of the devices using Wi-Fi.

When the frequency of the Wi-Fi connection is interfered with, it causes a weakened connection to the devices connected to that router.

However, even if you move your router away from your TV, and keep it 10 feet away from other electronic and Bluetooth devices, you can still have Wi-Fi trouble.

That is not because anything is wrong with your home, it can be due to other issues.

It could you need to upgrade your plan, purchase a router with a more powerful frequency, and or set up multiple routers throughout your home.

Coverage issues are always fixable, it might take a few tries and adjustments to find the cause of the weakened connection.
