A cake maker has been praised for her ‘genius’ Kmart cake stand hack that costs less than $10

Melbourne-based cake maker Tigga Maccormack sent TikTok into a spin after discovering a way to make a $10 cake stand with Kmart items.

An inventive TikTok user has saved hundreds of dollars after discovering a genius way to combine two unexpected Kmart items to create a bargain cake stand.

Melbourne-based cake maker Tigga Maccormack paid a visit to the bargain retailer last week and picked up a planter stand for $3.25 and wooden board for $6.

Using a few squeezes of hot glue, she attached the top of the stand to the underside of the board to create what she described as a “bloody cheap and awesome cake stand” for under $10.

“All I did was (I) went into my craft box and got my hot glue gun [and] squirted some glue onto the top of my stand,” she told viewers of her TikTok video.

“I then stuck the stand to my wooden board,” she said, drawing attention to the pre-existing alcove on the board which was coincidentally the perfect size for the rim of the stand.

“I was so obsessed with it that I had to make myself a black one and a pink one too,” she said.

The hack was welcome news for hundreds of viewers, with cake stands typically retailing from anywhere between $50 and $100.

“You are freaking amazing! What a brilliant idea,” one person wrote in a comment.

“Genius! This would look so good as a plant stand as well,” another said.

“You just blew my mind! I’m using them as cheese boards,” someone else wrote.

Ms Maccormack later added that she had opted to use the 12 inch board, which she suggested would be the perfect size for a wedding cake.

Some viewers speculated it would not be long before Kmart stores across the country begun selling out of the two super cheap items as a result of Ms Maccormack’s video.
