Love Island’s Camilla Thurlow on Jamie’s support during ‘scary’ OCD struggle

Love Island finalist Camilla Thurlow has struggled with anxiety and OCD for several years and says it can sometimes feel like a “daily battle”.

In an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, the 33-year-old said: “There were times when I just needed to know it wouldn’t always be this hard, and even though I’m still working on it, I can say that is the case.

“OCD is incredibly isolating. It can make life feel lonely even when you are around people often because it’s the invisible aspects of OCD that are often most difficult and scary to deal with.

“It takes work to manage it and there are good days and bad days. OCD is specific to the individual but having a safe space to talk really helps, be that a professional or a loved one who is willing to take the time to understand.

“Maybe one thing I would say to anyone else in a similar situation is that there is always hope, things can and do get better. It is possible for your mind to feel more peaceful and for you to find to find quiet contentment in your life again. “

As for her husband Jamie Jewitt, Camilla says he is a “very supportive partner and a great Dad”.

Camilla and Jamie won the hearts of the nation when they fell for each other in the Love Island villa back in 2017.

They have now been together for six years, married in 2021 and share two beautiful children: Nell, two, and Nora, one.

“He brings a lot of happiness into all our lives. I love that one day we are going to be able to look back on the memories of these times together. We say to each other all the time that surely these will be the best days of our lives,” she continued.

As for becoming a parent, Camilla says it has been a “wonderful but often overwhelming time” and one thing that helped her and her babies “feel happy and comfortable” were MAM’s sustainable soothers and bottles.

Teaming up with the company to launch their carbon-neutral soother range, Camilla said: “When Nell was first born, back in 2020, finding the MAM soothers and bottles in those early weeks and months of parenthood made a big difference to me.

“I think when you find the right products to soothe and reassure your baby, it isn’t just a comfort to them but to you too.

“In fact, MAM has been part of some of my own family’s very important firsts. The very first time my husband fed our first daughter. The first time we took a long journey as a family, and I stashed MAM soothers in absolutely every single pocket I could find!”
