Charlotte Hawkins backs knighthood for ‘champions’ Kevin Sinfield and Rob Burrow

Good Morning Britain’s Charlotte Hawkins has announced her support of the Daily Express’ crusade to knight sports stars Rob Burrow, 40, and Kevin Sinfield, 42.

The 48-year-old presenter and journalist is a patron for the MND Association, which is a charity focused on improving access to care, research and campaigning for people affected by motor neurone disease.

The rugby league icons have raised £8 million to help people with MND and have inspired the nation with their unbreakable friendship.

Rob was diagnosed with the disease in 2019, and fans were left in tears when his former Leeds Rhinos teammate Kevin carried him over the finish line at the Yorkshire city’s marathon last month, after pushing him for 26.2 miles in a wheelchair during their latest fundraising effort.

Now, former Strictly Come Dancing contestant Charlotte has weighed in on the campaign to see them honoured for going above and beyond.

Charlotte went on to share her personal reason for backing the campaign, explaining that her late father had suffered from MND.

“As a patron of MND Association after my Dad sadly died from the disease back in 2015, I know the huge difference it makes to the MND community having these two champions fighting their corner,” she said.

“And all of their efforts help take us one step closer to finding a cure, which will hopefully mean one day families don’t have to go through what we did with my Dad.

“You would be hard-pressed to find two more deserving people, they’ve gone above and beyond and it’s time we join together to push for their outstanding work to be recognised.

“Arise Sir Rob and Sir Kev I say!” she added.
