Star Wars Outlaws gameplay trailer is out! Details on story-line, characters, more
Ubisoft Massive’s upcoming open-world action game, “Star Wars Outlaws,” unveiled its gameplay trailer during the Ubisoft Forward Live event. The game, based on an original story set in the Star Wars universe, features immersive maps characteristic of Ubisoft’s signature style.
Developed by Massive Entertainment, the game allows players to embark on an intergalactic heist in the Outer Rim, while the Empire expands its dominion throughout the galaxy. “Star Wars Outlaws” was initially revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 11 and is scheduled for release in 2024 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
In the extensive gameplay footage, the initial scene showcases Nix, an endearing and axolotl-like creature, stealing a rock-shaped artifact and delivering it to Kay Vess (portrayed by Humberly González), a cunning scoundrel with a bounty on her head due to a previous failed job.
According to Julian Gerighty, the creative director of Star Wars Outlaws, these two characters form an inseparable duo who depend on each other’s abilities for survival. This dynamic is reminiscent of the partnership between the BD-1 droid and the protagonist in Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, where players can utilize Nix to activate buttons or carry out actions to distract enemies.
The gameplay primarily revolves around a stealth mission, but it quickly escalates into an intense firefight. Kay wields a variety of blaster modules that allow her to either stun opponents or deliver substantial damage to break through shields. Although her primary weapon is her blaster, she frequently scavenges random weapons scattered around the environment to dispatch enemies swiftly.
Set between the events of Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars Outlaws presents an original story arc where Kay and Nix embark on a thrilling journey through the criminal underworld. They engage in daring contracts and navigate intricate relationships with crime syndicates, all in pursuit of orchestrating the most monumental heist in the galaxy. As an open-world experience, the gameplay trailer also showcases Kay’s means of traversal, a hoverbike equipped with unique capabilities.
Alongside transporting players between locations, the vehicle features a nitrous booster for brief bursts of speed, enabling evasion of enemies or swift travel to destinations. Additionally, it appears that time can be momentarily slowed down while riding the hoverbike, reminiscent of the Dead Eye mechanic in Red Dead Redemption 2. This temporal manipulation allows for precise targeting of adversaries and unleashing a torrent of bullets upon them. Star Wars Outlaws is slated for a 2024 release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series S/X.
