Grocery delivery services may not be as popular as they were last year, but some things are still easier, more convenient, and better quality when delivered. Meat can be one of those things.
Meat delivery services range significantly in price, quality, and convenience. That’s why Good Chop
(available at Good Chop)
stands out as one of the best we’ve ever tested.
Variety, quality, value, and ease-of-use are all on point, making it an easy choice for sourcing everything from NY strip steaks to Pacific cod filets.
What is Good Chop
Good Chop is a meat and seafood delivery service with a fully customizable monthly subscription that can be skipped, paused, or canceled at any time. All products are raised or caught in the U.S. and guaranteed to be free from hormones, antibiotics, and anything else unnatural.
Products are individually packaged and frozen, then securely shipped in an insulated box with dry ice to keep the contents fully frozen during shipping. They can be stored in the freezer for up to 1 year.
How Good Chop works

Good Chop offers two box sizes for its monthly subscription service, and a discount for new subscribers.
There is a wide variety of products offered on the Good Chop menu in four protein categories: Beef, chicken, pork, and seafood.
Good Chop offers two box size options: A medium box for $149 or a large box for $269—and there are often new-subscriber discounts. The number of portions in each box depends on the cuts you select, but the price per serving can be as low as $3.74.
When you subscribe, you can add six cuts to a medium box or 12 cuts to a large box. The number of portions offered per cut depends on the item. For instance, a standard cut of chicken breasts includes six 6-ounce portions while filet mignon includes two 6-ounce servings.
After fulfilling your minimum subscription requirement, there are many bundles and deals that can also be added to your delivery. From protein bundles to sauces and seasonings, you can stock up on everything from bacon to barbecue sauce.
Prior to the ordering deadline each month, you can change out any and all proteins in your order. Subscriptions can also be skipped, paused, or canceled anytime.
What we like
Good Chop offers a good amount of variety
You won’t find extensive cuts of Wagyu or specialty charcuterie, but you will find an extensive selection of proteins that go far beyond beef and pork.
In addition to basics like steaks, chicken breasts, and burger packs, Good Chop offers a variety of seafood, prepared meats such as pulled pork and hot dogs, and more out-of-the-box cuts like porterhouse and tri-tip.
Good Chop also offers helpful bulk packs and bundles that combine various cuts and make it easy to stock up for summer barbecues or holidays.
You choose everything that goes into your box

You can easily change up what goes into your delivery each month, or keep it consistent if that suits you.
Feeling like porterhouse? Want shrimp and filet mignon for a special at-home surf and turf? Or just need to stock up on ground beef and chicken breasts? Every Good Chop delivery is fully customizable, and there are two box sizes to choose from.
The medium box is good for small families with regular freezer storage (this is what we tested). The large box is good for medium to large families with extra freezer storage space.
And you can make changes to your shipment up to five days before delivery, making it easy to plan out meals for the month ahead.
It’s a good value
Whether you choose the smaller or larger box size, the prices are on par with what you’d pay for top quality meat at the grocery store.
As far as meat delivery services go, we found that Good Chop is on the less expensive end of all the services we’ve tested, yet the quality is even better than most. You get high-quality, American-raised proteins at a price per serving as low as $3.74 for most orders—and even lower when burgers, dogs or bundles are included.
The products are delicious and high-quality

From pulled pork to cod, and chicken to steaks, everything we cooked up from our Good Chop deliveries was delicious and satisfying.
From flank steaks to chicken breasts, and salmon filets to hot dogs, everything we tried tasted good. The cod filets are tender and never rubbery, which can be an issue with frozen white fish. We turned them into lightly battered strips for fish tacos, with delicious success.
The steaks are well-portioned and nicely marbled without excess fat or sinew. The pulled pork has enough flavor to heat and serve on its own, but not so much that you can’t douse it with your favorite barbecue sauce or stir it into a sauté or casserole.
The company guarantees that everything is sustainably sourced from American family farms and fisheries, and raised without antibiotics or hormones. It also says that everything is frozen immediately at peak freshness, which not only makes for easy storage, but also excellent quality.
Portions are conveniently packaged

Convenient packaging makes it easy to thaw just what you need for any meal.
The last thing you want is to thaw too much of something you can’t re-freeze. Good Chop portions come conveniently packaged into manageable portions, so you can take out only as much as you need.
For instance, each six-ounce portion of chicken breasts is vacuum packed into its own pouch and separated from the rest of the portions. It’s easy to cut one pouch off and leave the rest in the freezer.
What we don’t like
Premium cuts add to the bottom line
With box prices limited to $149 for the medium and $269 for the large, you’re already operating with a minimum purchase requirement. Adding premium cuts to your box adds to the total purchase price.
It’s not a deal-breaker since you can choose if and when you want to indulge in premium cuts, but it’s important to be aware of the increased cost if you were expecting the box price to remain fixed.
Bundles must be add-ons
Sometimes it’s helpful to select a bundle of products. If you’re hosting a barbecue or stocking up on staples like chicken breasts or burgers, a bundle saves money and effort. Unfortunately, bundles are a separate add-on to your monthly box.
Good Chop offers a wide variety of money-saving bundles that include proteins from every category, but you’ll need to add them on to a monthly subscription delivery.
Recipes are not included
While you will find detailed descriptions of each cut, Good Chop doesn’t provide any cooking suggestions or recipes. If you’re not sure how to cook a particular cut, don’t shy away from it, but do some research ahead of time.
Our favorite source for reliable, free recipes is Serious Eats, and we recommend finding recipes for unfamiliar cuts before purchasing.
