Tamil Nadu schools reopen today following revised schedule for Classes VI to XII – Times of India

Tamil Nadu schools reopen: Tamil Nadu schools have commenced their reopening today after the summer break. As per the revised schedule, classes from 5th to 12th have resumed, while classes from 1st to 5th will reopen on June 14, 2023.
The decision to delay the reopening date was based on chief minister M.K. Stalin’s directive to protect students from the hot weather prevailing in various parts of the state. Minister for school education, Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi, emphasized the importance of ensuring student safety.
Originally, schools were slated to reopen on June 7, 2023. However, concerns about high temperatures and weather conditions prompted the School Education Department to revise the schedule. Initially, classes VI to XII were supposed to start on June 1, with classes I to V resuming on June 5.
Following the recent announcement, chief educational officers in districts, including Chennai and Chengalpattu, issued circulars instructing all schools, whether government, aided, or private, to adhere to the specified reopening dates. Strict measures were put in place to ensure compliance, with district-level officials monitoring the situation and taking necessary actions.
In Chengalpattu district, schools were explicitly instructed not to conduct special classes for senior school students prior to the official reopening dates, and any violations would be met with departmental consequences.
As schools reopen in Tamil Nadu, the government remains committed to prioritizing student welfare and maintaining a safe learning environment amidst challenging weather conditions.
