Final Fantasy VII Rebirth Will “Kiss The Original Story Completely Goodbye”; Releases In January 2024 – Rumor

While Final Fantasy VII Remake kept the framework of the original story while making changes, it seems like its sequel Final Fantasy VII Rebirth will almost completely do away with the classic story, according to a reliable insider.

(There will be some light spoilers behind this point, so avoid reading if you haven’t completed the original Final Fantasy VII.)

Speaking on the ResetERA forums, as reported on the Gaming Leaks subreddit, Im a Hero Too revealed that the trailer only teased the smallest part of the game, as it will be a massive title that will “kiss the original story complete goodbye,” which is something that the trailer indeed teased, with Sepiroth suggesting that Tifa was killed during the events in Nibelheim. Additionally, Zack Fair will be playable during a big part of the game, which is something interesting, considering his role in the original game was limited and was only expanded in Crisis Core, which was remade last year to provide players the means to experience the spin-off on modern gaming platforms.

Speaking about the Final Fantasy VII Rebirth gameplay, Im a Hero Too confirmed that the game will feature big zones, but they will be smaller than those seen in the upcoming Final Fantasy XVI. Speaking further about the game, they said that the combat system is still “sublime,” and that the game generally goes in a new direction, and the callbacks to the original won’t be as meta as those in Remake. Finally, it seems like we won’t have to wait a long time to play the game, as the insider revealed the game will release in January 2024.

Unfortunately, the insider deleted their ResetERA account alongside their posts, so the report on the Gaming Leaks subreddit is all we currently have. As the insider proved to be extremely reliable, however, there’s a good chance most of this information is indeed real.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth launches in early 2024 on PlayStation 5. We will keep you updated on the game as soon as more come in on it, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
