Universal Credit claimants could get extra £691 a month

Who is eligible for PIP or ADP?

A person needs to expect their condition to affect them for at least a year from when they started to be impacted.

An individual may qualify if they have difficulties with any of these daily tasks:

  • Engaging and communicating with other people
  • Reading and understanding written information

  • Planning a journey or following a route
  • Moving around.

There are more than 500 conditions that can qualify a person to receive PIP. These are the same of the common types of conditions that may qualify an individual for the benefit:

  • Haematological Disease
  • Infectious disease
  • Malignant disease
  • Metabolic disease

How much is PIP?

PIP payments are made up of a daily living part and a mobility part, with a lower and higher rate depending on the level of support a person needs.

These are the current weekly rates:

Daily living

  • Standard rate: £68.10
  • Enhanced rate: £101.75.

Mobility

  • Standard rate: £26.90
  • Enhanced rate: £71.00.

This means a person who receives both higher rates would get around £691 a month, which on top of the Universal Credit standard allowance would be over £1,000 for single claimants aged 25 or over, or for joint claimants.

These are the current monthly rates for the standard allowance

  • Single under 25: £292.11
  • Single 25 or over: £368.74
  • Joint claimants both under 25: £458.51
  • Joint claimants, one or both 25 or over: £578.82.
